Meditation - the best way to a happy life and to know yourself

Meditation is a wonderful way to shake off the daily grind, rediscover the world with new eyes and get to know ourselves.

Why should you meditate? Above all, because each of us must know complete peace. And even sleep before the night does not give us complete peace. Tossing and turning, the tension of the facial muscles while we dream, can hardly be called rest. The same goes for lying down, when we are restless and keep tossing and turning in bed. Lying on your back, with relaxed, not stiff arms and legs, without a pillow under the head - this is a suitable position for practicing breathing and relaxation of all muscles, but you can easily fall asleep. Meditating lying down, you can't get as far as if you were sitting. It is possible to achieve complete stillness in a seated position and go even deeper into meditation to relieve yourself of the worries and problems that disturb and block your mind.

Keep your back straight while meditating. This is very important. The neck and head should be in line with the spine, upright, not stiff or straight like a cane. Focus your eyes on one or two in front of you. If you can, smile a little.

Start watching your breath and relax all your muscles. Concentrate on an upright spine and following the breath. Get rid of everything else. If you want to relax your anxiety-tightened facial muscles, smile. With a smile, all the muscles of the face begin to relax. The longer you smile, the better. It is the same smile you see on the face of the Buddha.

Place your left palm facing up into your right. Allow all the muscles in your hands, fingers, arms and legs to relax. Get rid of everything. Be like the water plants, which are worn downstream but below the surface of the river bed remains motionless. Hold on to nothing but your breath and a slight smile.

For beginners, it is good to sit for no more than 20-30 minutes. During this time, you can easily rest completely. The technique to achieve this consists of two things: observation and release. Watch your breathing and let go of everything else. Relax all the muscles in your body. After about 15 minutes you can achieve deep silence filled with inner peace and joy. Keep that stillness and calmness.

If you fail to find joy and peace in these moments of sitting, the future will simply flow like a river that you cannot hold back, and you will not be able to live in it when it becomes present. Joy and peace are the joy and peace possible in this hour of sitting. If you can't find them here, you won't find them anywhere. Do not pursue your thoughts as a shadow follows its object. Don't run after them. Find joy and peace in this very moment.

It's your own time. This seat you are sitting on is your own seat. In this place, in this moment, you can achieve enlightenment. No need to sit under a special tree in a distant land. Practice like this for a few months and you will feel a deep, renewing delight.

One might ask: does all this mean that relaxation is the sole purpose of meditation? In fact, the purpose is much deeper. relaxation is a necessary starting point, but once achieved, we can achieve peace of heart and clarity of mind. And to find peace of heart and clarity of mind means we have come a long way on the non-meditation path.
