How to stay forever young -

10 tips from a Shao Lin monk

1. Don't think too much. Thinking takes a lot of energy. Thinking can age you.

2. Don't talk too much. Most people either talk or act. You better act.

3. When you work, work for 40 minutes and then stop for 10. When you look at something all the time, it can damage your eyes as well as your internal organs. It can destroy your peace.

4. When you are happy, you must control your happiness. If you lose control, it will damage your lung energy.

5. Don't worry too much and don't get angry because it will damage your liver and intestines.

6. When you eat, don't eat too much. Make sure you are never completely full or you will damage your spleen. When you get hungry, just eat a little.

7. When doing things, take your time. Use as much time as you need. Remember the saying "Hurry slowly and you'll get there soon".

8. If you only exercise your body and do not practice Qi Gong, you will lose your balance and become impatient. You will lose Yin from your body. Practice balancing Yin and Yang.

9. If you don't train your body, but only engage in inner peace and meditation, you won't get Yang energy. You will have to use the Yang energy from your body without being able to restore it.

10. Kung Fu Shaolin gives you everything. The purpose of our training is to balance Yin and Yang. It doesn't matter how many hours you do it. It is important to know what your body needs.

* (ed. note) Qi Gong (or Chi Gong) is an eastern art that came to us from ancient times. Its purpose is harmony between spirit and body, leading a healthy lifestyle and as a result - achieving longevity.

Shifu Yan Lei, who discovered and translated the above text, was actually a Shaolin monk who taught martial arts as well as the truths of life learned in the monastery. Its purpose is to make them accessible to the people of the Western world.
