On the road with God

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed that he was walking along the seashore with God.

Scenes from his life flashed across the sky. At every scene he noticed double footprints on the sand—one his and the other the Lord's. As the last scene of his life flashed, he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed, however, that many times on his life's path there was only one trail of footsteps, and that this happened during the saddest and most humiliating periods of his life. This disturbed him and he asked the Lord:

-Oh God, you once told me that after I follow you, you will always walk with me. But I noticed that during the most difficult moments of my life there was only one footprint on the sand. I don't understand why when I needed You the most, You left me alone?

God answered him:

– My dear child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your trials and sufferings, when you only see footsteps, it was when I carried you in my arms!
