Archangel Stew

Archangel Stew

Archangel Stew is one of the three Great Stews (Great Stews), also known as Men's, Rangel's and Hrangel's Stew.

This is the last All Souls' Day of the year and it is celebrated on the first Saturday before Archangel's Day

Customs

In many regions of the country, on this day, a sacrifice is made for the saint and ritual breads are made, the shape of which resembles that of breads prepared for burial or commemoration.

This day pays homage to the Christian belief in the immortality of the soul and the resurrection of the dead.

In the temples, a general memorial service is held for the deceased and prayers are offered for their souls. Like other days to commemorate the departed loved ones, the grave is covered with incense, a candle is lit, decorated with flowers, and memorial food is distributed to the loved ones.

Incense symbolizes pure prayer, flowers - the virtues of the deceased.

On this day we pour the first sip of wine on the ground, in honor of the dead. No housework such as cleaning, washing and sewing is done. Only the commemorative food is prepared.

It is believed that the dead appear in their loved ones' dreams and inform them that they are hungry or want something to eat. They believe that with the food given today, souls survive until the next stew.
