Why Tunisia is the rising star of North Africa

Tunisia is a small country in North Africa, sandwiched between Algeria and Libya. It is an incredibly vibrant country with a diverse array of French, Italian, Arab and African cultural heritage and a landscape that stretches along the Mediterranean coast to the Sahara desert.

Here are 10 reasons to visit Tunisia this year.

1. The medina of Tunisia

The most beautiful place in the country is the central part - the heart of the capital Tunis surrounded by old Arab walls, also known as the Medina. In the city, where you can find the best examples of Arabic architecture and bustling markets, you can find everything from household materials to gold and jewelry, all for sale.

2. Chebika

Of course, it's a matter of taste, but the most original and beautiful places to see are sometimes far from city centers. Chebika, lying at the foot of the Jebel el Negeb mountain, can be seen as the best example in this context. Magnificent waterfalls, mysterious caves and palm trees that grow on rocky hills offer an extraordinary image and, of course, naturally attract many tourists.

3. Hammamet

A modest fishing village surrounded by lemon trees, today Hammamet is a magnificent holiday destination with numerous hotels. In fact, Tunisia's first tourist destination, the city's hot springs, wonderful beaches and organizations that will satisfy water sports lovers will keep you alive every day of your vacation here. As well as having all-inclusive hotels, Hammamet also has a lovely town centre.

4. Sidi Bou Said

Sidi Bou Said is certainly the most loved town in Tunisia overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The bohemian life of traditional white houses and the color blue blend perfectly in the city, but several modern boutique hotels have recently opened and plan to target slightly more affluent tourists. You can see many cafes, art galleries and gift shops decorated with flowers on very narrow and cobbled streets. For those who want to visit Cartagena, this is a great place to stay.

5. The Sahara desert

Why Tunisia is the rising star of North Africa

It's a great destination for any visitor who can really afford some warmth. To the south, the Sahara desert engulfs Tunisia. The desert, also known as the Eastern Sand Sea, covers a very large part of southern Tunisia. You can go with the best jeep or camel in the desert, but you will stay in a traditional tent and you will not find romance at night. Do not neglect to see Nefta, one of the most spectacular sand peaks.

6. Matmata and Xur

Tunisia is the rising star of North Africa

Star Wars fans will immediately recognize the Matmata Cave Houses. Director George Lucas was so fascinated by the place that he decided to include it in the film. Ghorfas gives the impression of another planet with its honeycomb-shaped granaries and incredible architecture.

7. Sus

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is located on the right bank of the country. Sousse is famous for its sandy beaches like gold. The city is a wonderful example of the emergence of Islam from the first centuries to the present day. You can see fine examples of Arab-Muslim and Mediterranean architecture, including Ftata Camisin.

8. Tamerza

Another destination with an abandoned city center and frequented by tourists. It is located in the mountains north of the salt lake and features two waterfalls, an oasis and deep corridors. When visiting Tamerza, we suggest you visit Mides, another mountain oasis in the immediate vicinity, with a truly extraordinary canyon.

9. Kairouan

Kairouan is one of the most important holy cities of the Cairo state, another city on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The lively markets, lively downtown and rich architecture are the first features that strike visitors at first sight. The Great Mosque of Okba is one of the largest and oldest mosques in Tunisia. Another place to see is the 9th century Three Gates Mosque.

10. Cap Bon

The peninsula in the northeastern part of the country is so beautiful that it is often known as the "garden of Tunisia". It is also a very popular resort center and this popularity has its reasons. Magnificent sun, flawless sea, thermal springs, eucalyptus trees, lush palms and sweet smells make Cap Bon one of the most beautiful places in Tunisia.
