TOP 10 of the most beautiful beaches in the world

Composed of about 71 percent water, 96.5 percent of which is found in the oceans, our planet is home to thousands of beautiful beaches. 10 of them were collected, defined as the most beautiful beaches in the world.

  1. Matira Beach, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

The French Polynesian island of Bora Bora, floating in an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, is as close to tropical paradise perfection as you can get. Surrounded by a crystal clear and super calm lagoon that boasts some of the most brilliant turquoise and marbled azure waters in the world, the island is home to white sand beaches and a lush interior of jagged volcanic peaks.

The best public beach in Bora Bora is Matira Beach. Here, the sand is white and powdery soft, and the sunsets over the brilliant turquoise lagoon are legendary and not to be missed.

2. Grace Bay Beach, Turks and Caicos

Located southeast of the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos are a group of about 40 islands that remain a British overseas territory. The world-famous Grace Bay Beach, on its main island Providenciales, is one of the most exquisite stretches of white sand in the world. Spanning eight kilometers in a crescent shape, it is backed by crystal clear turquoise water and one of the world's largest coral reef systems.

Grace Bay Beach is part of the Princess Alexandra Marine Park and has two excellent snorkelling sites accessible from the beach. Bight Reef and Smith's Reef are full of live coral and tropical fish and you can follow a marked snorkelling trail around them.

3. Camps Bay Beach, Cape Town, South Africa

Just a 10-minute drive from the center of Cape Town in South Africa, Camps Bay Beach is simply stunning when it comes to scenery. The water here is of the turquoise and emerald striated variety, tinged with darker blue and depending on the seasons, but it's deceptively cold. Yet in the summer, the public beach attracts crowds of sun worshippers, and the current here comes straight from Antarctica.

However, Camps Bay is on our list because the beach itself is beautiful, with scenery unlike anywhere else on Earth. On one side you see the sand and the waves; on the other, the rock formations of the Twelve Apostles tower over the shoreline.

Camps Bay is actually just one of many wonderful beaches within a 20-minute drive of Cape Town. Clifton's beaches are equally popular and can only be reached by descending very steep steps from the road.

4. Railay Beach, Thailand

One of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand, the magnificent Railay Beach is isolated on a small peninsula that can only be reached by boat - a journey well worth taking. Upon arrival, you'll find glistening, powdery, soft white sand and a perfect turquoise lagoon surrounded by giant limestone monoliths (both in and out of the water), dense jungle and cliffs and caves.

It's an adventure beach spot that's very popular with couples for its combination of romance and adrenaline – you can rock climb here or swim through underground caves to find secret lagoons.

5. Whitehaven Beach, Queensland, Australia

Consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in Australia and the world, Whitehaven Beach is an island beauty off the coast of Queensland at the end of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Accessible only by boat, seaplane or helicopter, it serves seven kilometers of glistening white silica sand backed by turquoise water.

The beach is on Whitsunday Island, which is the largest of the 74 islands that make up the group of the same name. Head to Hill Inlet, at the northern end of Whitehaven Beach, when the tides change for an Instagram-worthy photo op. As the water shifts its depth, the colors of the blue change and swirl around the sand. It's a stunning sight. Tongue Point is another excellent viewing area.

6. Miami Beach, Florida

Miami Beach is the name of a 2.5 mile stretch of beach located on the barrier island between Miami and Biscayne Bay and one of the most beautiful beaches in America.

At its southern end is South Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the continental United States, with powdery white sand and clear turquoise water.

On the beach itself, you can spend a day just sunbathing and swimming, or take part in all kinds of water sports, from jet skiing to wakeboarding.

7. Shipwreck Beach, Zakynthos, Greece

Accessible only from the sea, Shipwreck Beach on the island of Zakynthos is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Greece. Set in a crescent-shaped bay surrounded by towering cliffs that stretch out to the sparkling azure sea where you'll find sea caves, the beach is made up of fine white pebbles and is truly a stunning work of nature.

8. Tulum, Mexico

On the Riviera Maya, about a two-hour drive from the chaos that is Cancun, Tulum boasts a beautiful white-sand beach; clear turquoise water; and against the backdrop of ancient Mayan ruins, which sets it apart from other beaches in Mexico.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tulum also hosts a number of hotels and resorts along its coastline. Also in the area is the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve, which protects half a million acres of reefs, rainforests, dunes and caves.

9. Petit Anse, Mahé, Seychelles

In the Indian Ocean, hundreds of miles off the east coast of Africa, the Seychelles Islands are one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world. There are dozens of serenely beautiful beaches scattered around these islands, but Petite Anse is perhaps the most beautiful of them all. It is set against a backdrop of granite cliffs and dense forest on the southwest coast of Mahe, the main island of Seychelles.

10 Amed, Bali

Indonesia's most fascinating island, beautiful Bali is home to numerous beaches. But Amed, on the northeast coast, is not only magnificent from above, it boasts much beauty on the ocean floor below. Dive into the translucent sea and you'll find thriving coral with brightly colored fish, sea turtles and other marine life. There's even a shipwreck to explore. The beach itself is a beauty – black sand set against a turquoise sea, volcanic peaks and green jungle.
