Composed of about 71 percent water, 96.5 percent of which is found in the oceans, our planet is home to thousands of beautiful beaches. 10 of them were collected, defined as the most beautiful beaches in the world.

  1.

Matira Beach, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

The French Polynesian island of Bora Bora, floating in an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, is as close to tropical paradise perfection as you can get. Surrounded by a crystal clear and super calm lagoon that boasts some of the most brilliant turquoise and marbled azure waters in the world, the island is home to white sand beaches and a lush interior of jagged volcanic peaks.

The best public beach in Bora Bora is Matira Beach. Here, the sand is white and powdery soft, and the sunsets over the brilliant turquoise lagoon are legendary and not to be missed.

    2. Grace Bay Beach, Turks and Caicos

Located southeast of the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos are a group of about 40 islands that remain a British overseas territory. The world-famous Grace Bay Beach, on its main island Providenciales, is one of the most exquisite stretches of white sand in the world. Spanning eight kilometers in a crescent shape, it is backed by crystal clear turquoise water and one of the world's largest coral reef systems.

Grace Bay Beach is part of the Princess Alexandra Marine Park and has two excellent snorkelling sites accessible from the beach. Bight Reef and Smith's Reef are full of live coral and tropical fish and you can follow a marked snorkelling trail around them.

    3. Camps Bay Beach, Cape Town, South Africa

Just a 10-minute drive from the center of Cape Town in South Africa, Camps Bay Beach is simply stunning when it comes to scenery. The water here is of the turquoise and emerald striated variety, tinged with darker blue and depending on the seasons, but it's deceptively cold. Yet in the summer, the public beach attracts crowds of sun worshippers, and the current here comes straight from Antarctica.

However, Camps Bay is on our list because the beach itself is beautiful, with scenery unlike anywhere else on Earth. On one side you see the sand and the waves; on the other, the rock formations of the Twelve Apostles tower over the shoreline.

Camps Bay is actually just one of many wonderful beaches within a 20-minute drive of Cape Town. Clifton's beaches are equally popular and can only be reached by descending very steep steps from the road.

    4. Railay Beach, Thailand

One of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand, the magnificent Railay Beach is isolated on a small peninsula that can only be reached by boat - a journey well worth taking. Upon arrival, you'll find glistening, powdery, soft white sand and a perfect turquoise lagoon surrounded by giant limestone monoliths (both in and out of the water), dense jungle and cliffs and caves.
