Once upon a time, two brothers who lived on neighboring farms got into a conflict. It was the first serious break in their relationship in 40 years of farming side by side. They had shared machinery, traded labor and goods. Then a long collaboration fell apart. It started with a small misunderstanding and grew into a major difference that erupted into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

One morning a stranger knocked on the elder brother's door. He opened it and saw a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I'm looking for a few days' work," said the carpenter. \u2013 Maybe you'd have a few jobs here and there. May I help you? "<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cYes!\u201d said the older brother. \u201cI have a job for you. Look across the creek to this farm. This is my neighbor, actually this is my younger brother and we don't get along. Last week he dug a wider water passage on his farm. But he ended up creating a very wide flow between our farms, and I'm sure he did it just to annoy me. I want you to build me something so we don't have to stand and see each other from the inside. "<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The carpenter said, \u201cI think I understand the situation. I'll be able to get the job done and I think you'll like it. \u201d The older brother had to go to town for supplies, so he left his new worker for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day, measuring, cutting, nailing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

At sunset, when the elder brother returned, the carpenter had just finished his work. The older brother's eyes opened wide and his jaw dropped. It wasn't what he had even thought or imagined. It was a bridge spanning from one side of the stream to the other. Exquisite work, beautiful railings. And to his surprise, his younger brother was coming across the stream to meet him with a big smile and arms wide open to embrace him.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cYou are truly kind and humble, my brother! After all I had done and said to you, you still showed that blood ties can never be broken! I am truly sorry for my behavior,\u201d the younger brother said as he hugged his older brother. They turned to see the carpenter heft his toolbox over his shoulder. "Do not wait! Stay a few days. I have many other projects for you,\u201d said the elder brother.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

"I'd be glad to go on," said the carpenter, "but I have many more bridges to build!"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
