IF

    If you control yourself when everyone

    they tremble, and they call you a coward;

    If only one heart

    trust but be cautious;

    If you wait without despairing;

    slandered - do not slander;

    or angry - you do not hide malice;

    but... you are neither wise nor holy;

    If you dream without being a dreamer;

    if you're smart without being a smartass;

    If you meet Kraha - an evil traitor -

    same with Triumph - old cynic;

    If villains your oath holy

    turned into a trap - and you bear it,

    or you see things collapsed,

    built with blood - and you start a new building;

    If you bet on a pile in front of you

    won, you boldly roll the dice,

    lose, and start again, and you can

    to keep silent about failure old;

    If you put your brain, nerves, hands -

    and worn out - to serve you again,

    and you walk, with only the Will left,

    which tells them: "Get in step!"

    If in the crowd the Lord in you preserves,

    in the palace - his simple human laughter;

    If you respect everyone, but do not creep;

    if you are not afraid of enemy and your own;

    If you fill the predatory Minute

    with a sixty-second sprint, at least once;

    The world is Yours! My request has been heard!

    And most importantly, my son, you will be a Man!

Rudyard Kipling

    And another proof of his sense of humor – a letter he sent to a newspaper that wrongly reported his death:

    I had to be wrong to keep living
