George Bernard Shaw was a prominent British writer, publicist and traveller, known for his sharp language as well as his criticism of Victorian society. He was a serious defender of women's rights. Among his most famous and glamorous works are: "Widows' Houses" (a play published in 1893 from the cycle "Unpleasant Plays"), "Mrs. Warren's Profession" (a drama with prostitution as the main theme), "Candida", "Chosen of fate', 'Man and Superman', 'Major Barbara', 'Androcles' and others.
