Devesil protects home and love from evil forces

There is hardly any other plant in Europe that has been used in the same way, whether in Scandinavia, the Balkans, or Russia.

According to the old tradition, perennial aromatic grass was always planted in front of the front door of the house. The Devesil possessed such a cleansing power that it banished evil forces and thoughts.

It was believed that every guest, passing by the devesil planted in front of the house, would be cleansed of black thoughts and only then could enter the house.

It brings love

Brides sewed daisies petals into their wedding dress, thereby bewitching their lover and believing that they would be loved for life. In the old days, there was no yard in which this aromatic shrub - a giant among herbs - was not planted.

Devesil first appears in the garden bed, and can reach two meters in height. Its leaves are green all summer because they are always breaking out new fresh stems. It tastes very similar to celery, its aroma is dominant and does not mix with other spices.

Magic power

The plant is rich in potassium, vitamins, minerals and essential oils. In folk medicine, juice or a decoction of the roots and leaves of devesil is used. It has an expectorant, tonic and diuretic effect.

Strengthens hair growth, improves appetite, regulates heart activity, promotes good self-esteem.

A spelling error

The Latin name of devesila - levisticum, is the result of a spelling mistake made by luminaries in ancient medical science.

The Roman physician Dioscorides called it Ligurian celery – from the historical region of Liguria in Italy. Later, another Roman physician, Galen, misspelled the name as levisticum.

Over time, it transformed even more, in Germany it began to be associated with love magic and became liebstock, the Russians gave it the name lubistok.

In the Bulgarian language, several names are used for devesila - lyuchyan, selim and northern laryngeal. According to our legend, the plant is called nine forces, or the herb that strengthens the body and gives strength to the body.

Ukrainian legend

One of the most exciting legends about devesila has Ukrainian roots. Usually, in the bouquets of the girls and the flower crowns that decorated their heads, devesil - lovage, and cornflower - cornflower were mixed. Legend has it that there once lived many beautiful birds of the lovage and cornflower species. Because of their bright feathers, their mass destruction began. Two of them managed to hide from the Horus evil in the deepest forest. People called them lovage and cornflower, and over time they began to admire their devotion and friendship. When the birds one day passed away, they turned into flowers, which also got the same names.

Devesila is believed to be the herb of fidelity and keeps true feelings from being forgotten.

In diseases

If you have a severe headache, take a few leaves of devesil and crush them between your fingers. Apply the soft leaf mass to your temples, you will feel a sense of relaxation, and mostly because of the effect of the aroma.

In case of alcohol dependence, the following is recommended: in 250 grams of vodka, finely chopped roots of devesil and two leaves of bay leaf are put, let it stand for 15 days, then drink a small amount. It is said to have produced an aversion to alcohol.

For angina: in 400 grams of hot fresh milk, two or three sprigs of devesil are boiled. The decoction is drunk hot for several days.

Devesil is not recommended during pregnancy.

For healthy and thick hair, a tincture is made with about two tablespoons, which are put in water, and it is poured over the hair when washing. You can put the leaves or tincture in the bath, it has a calming effect.
